ARICK WIERSON, Principal, Channel Production Films
Arick Wierson is a principal of Channel Productions, and resident Executive Producer for its film arm, Channel Productions Films. Mr. Wierson’s responsibilities include conceptualization and early stage creative, production management, and marketing. His current portfolio of projects is focused on documentary feature films for theatrical distribution and broadcast.
From 2002 through 2009, Mr. Wierson was the President of NYC Media Group reporting to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. He was the Found and General Manager of NYC TV. In his tenure, Mr. Wierson built the single largest local media enterprise operation in the United States. Its purview included NYC TV’s six broadcast and cable channels that reach a combined audience of more than 35 million viewers; NYC TV On Demand and other online services; WNYE 91.5 FM Radio, and a host of distribution companies, including Taxi TV.
Broadcasting & Cable Magazine has described Mr. Wierson “one of the most important people in New York media.” While at NYC TV, Mr. Wierson led the network to a record 160 Emmy nominations and 42 Emmy Awards. He was nominated 20 times for his role as Executive Producer in the creation and production of original programs, among them NY 360^0, Cool in Your Code, Eat Out | New York, The Bridge, That’s So New York, Gigs, Blueprint | NYC, and City Scoop. He has won five Emmys for his role as the creator and Executive Producer of Secrets of New York.
Mr. Wierson graduated cum laude from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Foreign Service. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from The State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in São Paulo, Brazil.
Mr. Wierson resides between in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Luanda, Angola where he is the Chief Executive Officer of Occidental Atlantica, a diversified investment company focused on opening up the Angolan market to foreign direct investment. In addition to his native English, Mr. Wierson speaks fluent Portuguese and Spanish.
