David Bain

Producer, Channel Production Films

David Bain is a principal of Channel Productions and a Producer for Channel Production Films. He has worked extensively in various capacities in film production and has experience in almost every department. In addition to his familiarity with film sets and set etiquette Mr. Bain has a background in direct service to adjudicated youth and has worked with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people in New York and Los Angeles for over 20 years.

Mr. Bain established the Reel Justice Media Literacy Program on Riker’s Island Academy in 2013 with the assistance of funding from The Center for Justice at Columbia University. He continues to develop curriculum with non profit organizations focused on giving incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people access to the tools that are needed to be able to create media.

As an alumnus of St. John's University with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, Mr. Bain worked as a case manager for The Dome Project. An internship that he completed in Def Jam’s video production department while he was in college brought him back to work in film where he started as a production assistant. Soon after he graduated he began working on Viacom Television shows on MTV and BET as a Production Coordinator. He accepted a position as a Production Manager with The People DP, a boutique production company specializing in ENG shoots and staffing crews primarily for Viacom.

David worked with Grand Street Settlement to establish the S.O.N.Y.C (Schools Out New York) After school program at Frederick Douglas Academy in Brownsville, Brooklyn and he served as the Program Director in its initial year. He is developing the 10 week in 10 week out media arts program in coordination with a non profit with locations in Harlem and upset New York called “Exodus” to teach incarcerated people basic fundamentals of film production and screenwriting pair them with mentors and provide them with the resources to develop careers in the media industry when they are released back into society.

He returned to working in media as an Assistant Director on music videos then commercials and finally independent films and has gained a wealth of practical experience as a Producer from working in different departments on all types of productions for over 10 years. Notably he was Assistant Director on the Emmy Award winning Documentary “Back Door Channels” which was produced by Channel Productions and Joe Bologna’s last film “Tango Shalom” released in 2021.

He is also a contributor to the 845 Mix podcast to the and he frequently lectures on issues of media literacy at New York City High Schools and Jr. High Schools. Mr Bain is dedicated to producing content with progressive themes that can be used to shift social norms, raise awareness and motivate young people to make better decisions.
